Project 5 Nora Can't Walk Out
Description
97 years ago, Lu Xun, the famous Chinese writer, said women couldn't live independently because they were not independent on finance. Nowadays, women can't escape from domestic violence because of policy.
Domestic violence is a severe social problem that remains unsolved in China. According to The Beijing News in 2018, domestic violence exists behind the doors of 430 million Chinese families. In China, every 7.4 seconds, a woman is beaten by her husband.
The protection of victims is limited. Police offices usually take domestic violence as common disputes between couples. This neglect causes many Chinese women killed by their husbands in marriage. Although some of them successfully get a divorce, because of inadequate protection, they live under the threats from their ex-husbands.
The name, Nora, comes from Ibsen's three-act play, Puphejmo. In this story, Nora walks out at the end to get rid of her husband's control. In China, because of Lu Xun's famous speech, What Happens After Nora Walks About, Nora becomes a name for awakened women.

Design Process
I choose this topic because it is close to every Chinese. 2020 is a terrible year, and news about wives killed or beaten by their husbands or ex-husbands to death make it even more terrible.
To me, the most shocking data about domestic violence is that, on average, every 7.4 seconds, a woman is beaten by her husband. so I decide to make my project based on this.
I choose black, white, and grey to present the unsustainable lives under the violence, and red as the representation of that violence. The screen will turn red every 7 seconds for 1 second. Every time the screen turns red means, probably, somewhere in China, a woman is beaten by her husband at home.
The triangle optical illusion at the center is the representation of domestic violence under this situation. The triangle has three sides, which symbol the three curial parts of domestic violence toward women. They are the husband who holds the wrong thoughts, the woman herself who is powerless, and others who don't offer help (other family members, government, or neighbors).
The optical illusion looks like a common triangle, but its structure doesn't make sense. In some degree, it is similar to domestic violence in China. Most Chinese accept it because they think it's common, and because that's exactly how their fathers treat their mothers. Cheated by that common sense, they never take their "few seconds" to think about it, so they never see through this illusion. People know beaten a stranger on street is wrong, but insist beaten someone most close to you is understandable.
By showing the 7.4 seconds data in a puzzling way, I hope I can catch people's attention, and think about the common phenomenon they are very used to.
Reflection
1.Use frame rate instead of second() to control time.
2.Thinking mathmetically, choose codes like frameCount%8==0 as condition.
3.Connect rotate() with frame rate.
4.Create rotation around the center of an object.
5.Use for loop successfully.
6.I first thought to use int() and second() come out a condition for my function. However, that doesn't work. P5 sends my error report when I want to make second() an integer. I guess that is because the speed of int() can't catch the second().
*How to use setTimeout() to control time.
*Try createGraphics(). Have two processes happen at the same time.
